Healthcare Bathing Room Planning Checklist

Room measurements, equipment documents and project questions to prepare before installation

A useful bathing-room plan brings together the room, the proposed bathing system and the transfer equipment your facility intends to use. Use this checklist to prepare information for Penner, your facility team and the contractors reviewing the project.

For the wider purchasing process, start with our healthcare bathing system buying guide. This checklist focuses on the room and the documents to gather before a layout or installation is finalized.

1. Identify the equipment and project

  • Record the facility name, project location and the person coordinating the room review.
  • State whether this is a replacement, a remodel or a new bathing room.
  • For an existing unit, collect the model and serial number from its identification label, plus clear photographs of the equipment and connections.
  • For a proposed purchase, record the model, configuration and options shown on the quote. Include the intended transfer or lift equipment and its exact model.

2. Measure the room and delivery route

Prepare a simple dimensioned sketch. Label the units used for every measurement and show which direction doors open.

  • Measure the room and mark doors, windows, fixed cabinets, radiators, columns and other obstructions.
  • Show the proposed bathing-system location and the space available around it for staff, transfers, cleaning and maintenance.
  • Record doorway openings, corridor widths, tight turns, stairs and elevators along the delivery route.
  • Include photographs of the entrance, the room from several corners and any restricted access points.

A product’s overall dimensions alone do not establish the room space required. Review the proposed arrangement with the applicable installation drawing and operating instructions, including access for the intended transfer equipment.

3. Document existing services

Ask the facility’s maintenance team and appropriate contractors to identify and record:

  • Hot- and cold-water connections, shutoff locations and the available water-service information.
  • Drain location and the existing drainage arrangement.
  • Electrical supply and connection locations relevant to the proposed equipment.
  • Floor condition and any structural or building-services questions that need review.
  • Connections or building work that must change for the selected configuration.

Have qualified project professionals compare these details with the requirements for the exact equipment being quoted and the requirements applicable to your project. Do not reuse a specification from a different model or configuration.

4. Gather the right model documents

The Penner manual library provides published installation, operation and maintenance documents. Start with the relevant healthcare model page:

Record the document title, document number, revision and the model or configuration it covers. Ask Penner to confirm the applicable installation drawing and manual revision for the proposed or existing unit before construction or equipment connections are finalized. Keep transfer and lift instructions with the bathing-system documents.

5. Agree on the project responsibilities

  • Identify who will review the layout, utilities, equipment access and transfer arrangement.
  • Clarify who handles removal of existing equipment, delivery into the room, building work, connections and installation.
  • Plan any room downtime and discuss staff training and equipment handover.
  • Record open questions and obtain written clarification of what is included in the proposal.

6. Send a complete planning package

Your package should contain the room sketch, access-route measurements, equipment-label photos, room and connection photos, the proposed equipment list and the questions still to resolve. Keep a dated copy with the quote and the confirmed drawings.

Request a quote to start the equipment discussion, or contact Penner for help identifying the documents for your project.
